CILTA is proud to support the efforts of RedR Australia - a non-for-profit humanitarian agency who selects and trains technical specialists to be available at short notice to work with the UN or non-government agencies.
RedR Australia is a agency which maintains a Standby Register of highly skilled personnel for United Nations agencies and other established frontline aid organisations to draw on for short-term emergency and disaster relief work. RedR Australia is also a leading provider of humanitarian response training courses for professionals and technical experts who wish to participate in emergency disaster relief work and to aid workers wishing to enhance their skills. The training courses have a particular focus on realistic scenario exercises to equip participants with the skills to respond quickly and confidently when working in humanitarian emergencies.
Humanitarian Logistics in Emergencies training course 5 – 10 September 2010, Dookie, Victoria
RedR Australia’s Humanitarian Logistics in Emergencies course focuses on the importance of logistics in the provision of aid to disaster survivors as well as its place in carrying out other disaster management operations.
Although mostly concerned with the movement of goods and equipment, humanitarian logistics also encompasses the relocation of disaster-affected people, transfer of casualties, and the movement of relief workers.
The course examines the design of logistics systems and the coordination required by the various agencies and actors involved in implementing the system and carrying out the operation. The course is supported by experts in humanitarian (UN/NGO/INGO) and commercial logistics (DHL and Toll Logistics). Participants have the opportunity to visit the site of a large commercial logistics operation.
Content is an introduction to humanitarian logistics therefore it is suited to a wide audience. However, experienced logisticians will benefit from the broader application of logistics to conflict and refugee situations, building a knowledge bridge for deployment to humanitarian crises.
