Australian Appointed to International President of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)

Len Harper, Executive Director of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia has been elected to the lead position of International President of CILT.

Mr. Harper is only the second Australian to be elected to the position of International President of CILT.

The Chartered Institute is a world-wide professional institution representing people in the Transport and Logistics industry.  CILT consists of 31 countries around the world with more than 33,000 members.

The Chartered Institute focuses on the professional development of people in the industry.  It achieves this through the delivery of a range of education and training programs, professional accreditation, development of continuing professional development programs and providing opportunities for members to build on their capabilities and career prospects through supported study and research.

In Australia CILT is represented in all capital cities and in major regional areas.

Mr. Harper is committed to developing the means of professional development.  His reckoning is that “better people make for better business”.

A key role is the attraction and retention of younger people to the industry by providing the opportunity for career development.  Already CILT Australia has a Young Members’ group with membership of nearly 1,000 across Australia.

Mr. Harper said that recent research has indicated that people with a professional qualification and membership of a key professional institution earn, over their career, approximately $200,000 more than their counterparts.

Mr. Harper has previously served as National Chair of CILT Australia and for the past four years has been the Chairman of the CILT International Management Board.  His business career involves the Chief Executive role in four public transport systems in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.  Mr. Harper holds a Bachelors Degree in Finance and Economics and a Masters Degree in Economics.  He is a Chartered Fellow of CILT and a Fellow of the Certified Practising Accountants in Australia.
